Individual Report #4 The Perfect Song: Reading

(by: Dimas Purnama Adi Wicaksono, an UKSW student).

Hi awesome people, Dimas is here once again. In this unflawed opportunity, I will share an amazing story in this episode of my blog. Well, it's not really a story, but it is a biography. So it is a biography of Stamford Raffles. It is a biography with an 8.00 level of literacy, it has 551 words, and was published by Paul Nation.

So, allow me to explain and tell this article briefly. Stamford Raffles was an Englishman who helped to make Singapore. He was born in Jamaica in 1718. Raffles did his work well in British East India Company and soon began to get promoted to higher positions in the company. He was sent to other places and he became very interested in foreign countries. He became the ruler of Java in 1817 and wrote a book called "The History of Java". Raffles did many other remarkable things in his life. He was interested in the history of Malay people so he learned their language. He also read many of Malayan history books and then rewrote them in English so that other people could read them as well.

And the perfect song for his legendary journey is "Camel by Camel" by Sandy Marton. In my opinion and thought, this song would be a perfect match to this Raffles' bizarre biography. It is because the song is also telling us about a man who's on an adventure to search for a new destiny as we can hear from the lyric; "I'm looking for a new dimension, new life to live", which is as the same as Raffles' purpose to travelling around the world. It really fits well, the song's beat is also second to none, I love this song very much.
